tail skid
Definição1
A smalll skid mounted on the bottom of the aft end of the fuselage of an airplane equipped with a tricyle landing gear. The tail skid absorbs the shock and prevents damage to the structure if the airplane should be rotated too abruptly on takeoff. In the early days of aviation when airplanes had no brakes and operated from grass fields, tail skids were used rather than tail lwheels to support the tail of the airplane when it was on the ground.
