Nota adicional1
A corrective maintenance action must be initiated without delay. Friction measurements are taken at time intervals that will ensure the identification of runways in need of maintenance or of special surface treatment before their condition becomes serious. The time intervals and mean frequency of measurements depend on factors such as: aircraft type and frequency of usage, climatic conditions, pavement type, and pavement service and maintenance requirements.
Nota adicional2
For corrective maintenance, the service should be sufficiently equipped with: (a) Spare parts for all the most sensitive components, such as tubes, solid state components, boards, chassis, motors, gears, power supplies, etc., Exp erience shows that it is desirable to have 30 per cent of the initial radar investment in critical spare parts on the site. If there are many radars, this percentage may be lowered to about 20 per cent, with a suitable distribution between central and local maintenance; (b) Test equipment, including the calibration equipment mentioned above; typically, this would amount to approximately 15 per cent of the radar value; (c) Well-trained personnel, capable of diagnosing and making repairs rapidly and efficiently. A competent maintenance organization should result in a radar availability 96 per cent of the time on a yearly basis, with standard equipment. Better performances are possible at a higher cost.
Contexto
Particular attention should be given to periodic or corrective maintenance procedures that involve false guidance signals being temporarily radiated. These conditions should be coordinated with ATC and promulgated to users by NOTAM, before the procedures commence.
