The process involving those activities necessary to evaluate passengers and make them ready to board flights, possibly including: - verification of reservation status; - selection of seat if not already made and possibly other amenities; - capture of baggage details; - delivery of boarding pass; - verification of baggage allowance; - delivery of baggage tags; - entry of baggage details in passenger ticket; - evidence of acceptance of flight coupon; - update of load control data;- passenger and baggage through processing; - baggage acceptance; - regulatory travel document check.

Check-in can be performed by humans or by machines (self-service devices such as kiosks).
Contexto
Data on each passenger (as contained in the machine readable zone of the passport) are captured by the airline during the check-in process overseas, formatted by the airline’s reservation/control system and transmitted to the centralized customs system, where it is checked against inter-agency databases and “lookout” lists.
