- The flight director (F/D) function of this system provides visual guidance commands to fly the airplane manually or to visually monitor autopilot and autothrottle response to the guidance commands. Flight guidance system operating modes can be selected for the F/D function with autopilot and autothrottle functions disengaged. The F/D modes selected by the pilots are annunciated on the pilot's flight mode annunicators (FMA) located on the top of each pilot's instrument panels. The digital flight data recorder (DFDR) records the FID and autothrottle system modes that are annunicated on the FMA.
