- A principal cloud type (cloud genus), predominantly stratiform, in the form of a gray and/or whitish layer or patch, which nearly always has dark parts and is nonfibrous (except for virga).

- Another weather observation was taken after the accident, at 1636 hours, indicating winds from 170 degrees at 6 knots, visibility in excess of 10 kilometers, 118th sky coverage by cumulus clouds at 2,000 feet, 318th~ sky coverage by stratocumulus clouds at 4,000 feet, and 618th~ sky coverage by cirrus clouds at 30,000 feet.
