- Where evacuation slides are in use, they should not be disturbed unless they are damaged. If they have not been activated, or if they have been damaged, evacuation stairs should be placed in use. These stairs could also prove beneficial in evacuation off wing surfaces where the distance from the wing to the ground is excessive.

- Nearly all aircraft are equipped with emergency evacuation equipment and the crew members should be competent in the use of this equipment. Some of the RFF personnel carry emergency aircraft evacuation stairs and in such cases, the crew members should be informed of the availability of these stairs.
