- Gas turbine engine exhaust gases typically contain a variety of hydrocarbon compounds. The specific compounds present and their relative concentrations are usually unknown. Flame ionization detectors (FID), used to measure hydrocarbons, do not respond equally to all hydrocarbon compounds.
