- Direction of rotation - Determine the direction of rotation of the tail rotor blade. The direction of rotation of the tail rotor varies between models. Generally, the advancing tail rotor blade moves in the direction opposite the flow of air from the main rotor blade to maximize the resultant flow of air across the tail rotor blade. However, in an effort to decrease noise and vibration, some helicopter tail rotor blades rotate so that the advancing tail rotor blade moves in the same direction as the flow of air from the main rotor blade.
