- A search and rescue radar transponder (SART) interacts with vessel or aircraft radars (9 GHz) for locating survival craft. SART responses show up as a distinctive line of 12 equally spaced blips on compatible radar displays, providing a bearing and range to the SART. A SART is a portable device which should be taken into a lifeboat or liferaft when abandoning ship.
