angle of attack
Definição1
The acute angle between the chord line and the relative airflow. Often referred to as an angle of incidence - which it is not. The angle of attack should not be confused with the pitch angle or attitude of aircraft, which are angles relative to the horizontal while the angle of attack is in respect to the relative airflow. It is referred to also as alpha.

Nota adicional1
Acronym in English: AOA.
Nota adicional2
The angle of attack is related to the flight path of the aircraft, not to the angle the wing makes with the horizontal. If the angle of attack becomes too great, the smooth airflow over the upper surface of the wing will break down. If no corrective action is taken by the pilot, there will be a sudden loss of lift and the aircraft will stall.
Contexto
Traditionally, an aircraft can stall at any airspeed, providing the angle of attack is great enough. Stalling speed is often used to refer to the speed below which the aircraft cannot remain airborne.
To visualize profile drag, consider the drag that must be overcome to prerotate the rotor system to flight r.p.m. while the blades are producing no lift. This can be achieved with a rotor system having a symmetrical airfoil and a pitch change capability by setting the blades to a 0° angle of attack.
As the bank angle transitions from medium to steep, increasing elevator-up trim and smoothly increasing engine power to that required for the turn removes some or all of the control forces required to maintain a higher angle of attack. However, 1f trim is used, pilots should not forget to remove both the trim and power inputs as the maneuver 1s completed.
