- The term “Flight Recorders” encompasses several types of recorders that can be installed on aircraft for the purpose of complementing accident/incident investigation. (See Figure III-7-1.) ICAO requires crash survivable recorders for the purposes of accident investigation which incorporate the functions commonly associated with a Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR).
