Sudden electrical discharges manifested by a flash of light (lightning) and a sharp or rumbling sound (thunder). Thunderstorms are associated with convective clouds (Cumulonimbus) and are, more often, accompanied by precipitation in the form of rainshowers or hail, or occasionally snow, snow pellets, or ice pellets.

From the viewpoint of the synoptic meteorologist, thunderstorms may be classified by the nature of the overall weather situation, such as airmass thunderstorm, frontal thunderstorm, and squall-line thunderstorm.
Contexto
A thunderstorm shall be regarded as being at the aerodrome from the time thunder is first heard, whether or not lightning is seen or precipitation is observed at the aerodrome. A thunderstorm shall be regarded as having ceased or being no longer at the aerodrome at the time thunder is last heard, and the cessation is confirmed if thunder is not heard for 10 minutes after this time.
