Definição1
A rotating airfoil driven by an airplane engine. The function of a propeller is the conversion of engine shaft torque into thrust to propel the airplane through the air. It produces thrust approximately perpendicular to its plane of rotation. The older but redundant term for propeller is airscrew.

Contexto
An independent device accurate to within ±1 per cent shall be used for the measurement of propeller rotational speed to avoid orientation and installation errors when the test aeroplane is equipped with mechanical tachometers.
Tests of sufficient duration shall be conducted at such powers, speeds and other operating conditions as are necessary to demonstrate reliability and durability of the propeller.
