- Definição2
- (1) A design factor used to provide for the possibility of loads greater than those assumed, and for uncertainties in design and fabrication (ICAO). In aircraft design, the margin of strength against loads greater than the limit load - normally 1.5 to 1.7 times for most parts. (2) The ratio of the breaking strength of a structure to the maximum load that it will ever be exposed to in normal usage. This is always greater than unity.

- Contexto
- Any approach lighting structure required to be frangible should be designed to withstand the static and operational/survival wind loads with a suitable factor of safety but should break, distort or yield readily when subjected to the sudden collision forces of a 3 000-kg aircraft airborne and travelling in any direction at 140 km/h (75 kt).
