- Figure 3.1 illustrates some typical fuel burn versus distance profiles for generic aircraft types of regional Jet (RJ), single aisle (SA), and twin aisle (TA). The initial rapid improvement of fuel efficiency with distance is clearly evidenced by the downward slopes on the left of the figure; in contrast the effect of trading payload for fuel can be seen in the steep upward slopes at the right hand portion of the curves.
