- Free routing corresponds to the ability for flights to file a flight plan with at least a significant part of the intended route which is not defined according to published route segments but specified by the airspace users. It is a user-preferred route, not necessarily a direct route, but the flight is supposed to be executed along the direct route between any specified way-points.
