substantial damage

Damage or structural failure, which adversely affects the structural strength, performance or flight characteristics of the aircraft, and which would normally require major repair or replacement of the affected component.

Bent fairing or cowling, dented skin, small punctured holes in the skin or fabric, minor damage to landing gear, wheels, tires, flaps, engine accessories, brakes, or wing tips are not considered “substantial damage” for the purpose of this Safety Report.
Nota Adicional2
The ICAO Annex 13 definition is unrelated to cost and includes many incidents in which the financial consequences are minimal.
Contexto
A collapsed or missing radome is not considered an accident unless there is related substantial damage in other structures or systems.
Aircraft salvage. An accident or incident in which the aircraft sustains substantial damage and the insurer considers the hull a constructive loss will be considered “aircraft salvage”.
