- As pointed out earlier, any loss of compressor tip air flow over a large circumference will result in severe overheat of the turbine if the engine continues to run. However, if the smaller nicks in the blades are not detected and repaired over numerous engine operation cycles they are likely to develop into fatigue cracks and release large debris to cause an engine failure.
