- The SAX-40 final design used a broader set of higher risk technologies including an embedded, boundary layer ingesting propulsion system with three engine clusters each of which is comprised of a single core driving three fans, a configuration that has a very high effective bypass ratio and allows for extended duct lengths for additional liner attenuation.
