- For example, in certain cases, the methodologies being applied in training and checking a recovery from an approach-to-stall condition of flight were based on the pilot being able to achieve recovery with a minimal loss of altitude. This resulted in training practices emphasizing the importance of a rapid application of power with the least amount of reduction in angle of attack (AOA) to minimize the loss of altitude rather than appreciating the importance of reducing the angle of attack to effectively restore the ability of the wing to generate lift.
