Contexto
An auxiliary power unit (APU) is a small gas-turbine engine coupled to an electrical generator and is used to provide electrical and pneumatic power to aircraft systems when required. It is normally mounted in the tail cone of the aircraft, behind the rear pressure bulkhead, and runs on kerosene fed from the main fuel tanks. Not all aircraft are fitted with APU, and though their use on transport category jet aircraft is now almost universal, some turboprops and business jets do not have an APU fitted.
