- (2) The rotor in the beginning of a turbofan engine. (3) A propeller, especially when the emphasis is upon its function of moving air rather than propelling. (4) Any vaned rotary device for producing a current or stream of air. Specifically, a multivaned wheel or rotor used to take in air in a bypass engine or a ducted-fan engine. It can be either a mere blower or a low-pressure compressor.
