- Nota adicional1
- When fossil fuel shortages occur, the investors can raise their prices—causing an increase in revenues for investors. In a nasty twist for the consumer, investors in fossil fuel energy production are rewarded for (1) speeding the depletion of a non-renewable resource or (2) not investing enough of their profits in support infrastructure, which drives up prices (think California in 2000–2001).
- Contexto
- Nitrous oxide (N2O) is a gas that has both natural and anthropogenic sources and contributes to the enhanced greenhouse effect (about 6 per cent of the effect is attributable to N2O). It has a very long atmospheric lifetime (125 years) and concentrations are increasing at the rate of 0.8 parts per billion (ppb) per year. Sources include the oceans, fossil fuel and biomass burning as well as agricultural soils.
- From strictly a fuel-cost perspective, since fossil fuel resources are non-renewable, the eventual depletion of these energy sources will entail rapid escalations in price. Add to this the environmental and political costs of fossil fuel use, and the increased awareness of the public to these issues, and fossil fuel becomes even more expensive.
- In support of all efforts for research and development regarding different techniques for clean fuels, including alternative fuels such as the Fuel Readiness Level (FRL), the Delegate of Saudi Arabia emphasized that the production of bio-fuels was unsustainable. In regard to mid- and long-term initiatives up to the year 2015, 2020, 2030 and 2050, all international perspectives affirmed that fossil fuel would remain dominant in the energy sector, including the transport sector, for several decades to come and the use of bio-fuel would be a complement rather than an alternative to fossil fuel.
