absolute ceiling

- The maximum altitude at which a sustained rate of climb is no longer possible (i.e., the rate of climb is zero). At this altitude, the maximum power available curve just about touches the power-required curve, meaning there is no reserve of power available to permit any climb.

- As you know (and as shown in the chart), VA is one example, because the numerical value of VA changes with weight. Another example concerns VX and VY: as altitude increases, VX increases slightly and VY decreases. VX and VY are equal when the airplane reaches its absolute ceiling.
