Contexto
Types of forecasting methods: Explain the advantages and disadvantages of preparing forecasts based on persistence, extrapolation and numerical weather prediction (NWP), and describe the role of the forecaster.
Diagnostic equation which establishes the relationship between the geopotential field and the horizontal field of motion. Velocities obtained by solving this equation may be used as initial data in numerical weather prediction or in diagnostic studies.
The vertical resolution of the observations is related to the weighting functions, and is typically about 3 km. This poor vertical resolution is one of the main shortcomings of the present sounding system for numerical weather prediction, and it will be improved in the next generation of sounding instruments, such as AIRS and HIS.
