A standard instrument approach procedure in which an electronic glideslope/glidepath is provided; e.g., ILS, MLS, and PAR.

An approach in which range, azimuth, and glide-slope information are provided to the pilot. This information may be provided by a pilot-interpreted aid, such as ILS (instrument landing system), or given by ground controller, as in a GCA (ground-controlled approach).

The approach may be monitored to touchdown and information may continue to be provided as necessary at the discretion of the controller in charge of the precision approach in which case the aircraft shall be informed when it is over the threshold.
