- A precision instrument used to measure the tension on a steel control cable installed in an aircraft. The tensiometer holds the cable at two points, and an anvil presses on the cable between these points and deflects it a specific amount. The amount of force needed to deflect the calbe is measured, and this value on a chart to determine the tension on this particular type and diameter of cable.
