- Areas constituting the innermost portions of the runway approach. The dimensions of a clear zone depend on the type of runway and the distance required to reach a height of 50 ft (15 m) in the approach surface. When a clearway is provided, the approach area begins at the end of the clearway. When the stopway is longer than the clearway, the approach area begins 200 ft from the end of the stopway.
