Definição1
A primary, horizontal, movable control surface on the tail of an airplane. It produces a pitching movement of the airplane about the lateral axis. When the control column is moved back, the elevators, which are hinged to the rear spar of the tailplane, moved up; if the control column is moved forward, the elevators move down. The lift produced in this process initiates a pitching movement, which moves the aircraft nose up or down, depending on whether the movement of the control column is backward or forward, respectively.

Contexto
Significant events and factors that were investigated in detail, but eliminated in the analysis, should also be stated in the findings. For example, findings such as “flight crew fatigue was not a factor in the accident” and “there was no malfunction of the elevator control system” should be considered when a comprehensive investigation was made into these aspects. Areas of ambiguity should be identified and stated, for example, “the investigation was unable to establish whether the pilot-in-command or the co-pilot was the pilot flying the aircraft at the time of the accident”.
