- Recent changes to ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices have recognized competency-based training programmes as an alternative way to gain civil aviation occupational qualifications. The advanced qualification programme (AQP) used extensively in North America has components that are focused on the achievement of specifically targeted competencies. The same could be claimed by alternative training and qualification programmes (ATQP) used by some air operators in other continents.
