- A low-density structural technique and material based on a hexagon-cell honeycomb sandwiched between two sheets that are too thin to be stable alone. A honeycomb can be made from aluminium foil, fiberglass, or paper. Such a structure has practically no strength against side loads, but it has exceptional strength against loads applied in the line with its openings.

- The face sheets of aircraft sandwich structures are typically made of carbon or glass fiber laminates, depending on the anticipated operating conditions. The two most common core materials are plastic foam and honeycomb. Honeycomb can be made of plastic, paper, or metal. In most constructions, the face sheets are bonded to the core with structural adhesive film.
