Definição1
Any of family of devices in which fluid is pumped though duct to flow past object under test. Duct can be closed circuit or open at both ends. Working section, containing body under test, can be closed or open (called open jet). Fluid can be air at any temperature/ pressure or various other gases or vapours. Operation can be continuous, intermittent or as brief as a millisec. Particular species is spinning tunnel.

Contexto
Wind tunnel and flight tests indicate that ice, frost or snow formations on the leading edge and upper surface of a wing, having a thickness and surface roughness similar to medium or coarse sandpaper, can reduce wing lift by as much as 30 per cent and increase drag by up to 40 per cent.
