- The state of the art fly-by-wire flight control system is a quadruplex command and stability augmentation system. It employs a fly-by-wire concept. The pilot-initiated control inputs are transmitted via quadrex electrical signals rather than mechanical linkage. The wiring is separated by branches. There are two to four branches down each side of the aircraft to prevent loss of the system to damage in one area. Cockpit controls with minimum displacement transducers (providing an essentially fixed stick and rudder pedal arrangement) convert the pilot's commands into electrical signals. These electrical command signals are processed by a flight control computer along with electrical signals from rate gyros, accelerometers, and the air data system which supplies dynamic and static pressures along with angle of attack. The processed electrical signals are transmitted via wiring to the hydraulic power cylinders, which then supply mechanical outputs to the flight control surfaces.
